WKA REVISES JUNIOR CUP SPEC TIRE DECISION
Concord, North Carolina — As most of you are aware, a couple weeks ago the WKA announced the spec tire for the Junior classes at Shawano would be Dunlop DCS and DCM. Since that time it has been brought to our attention by many of you that this is not necessarily the proper choice.
Through some phone conversations and e-mails there have been concerns expressed regarding the durability of the tire and also the availability. In speaking with the tire supplier it still remains uncertain if there would be enough of the 6.00 tires in both compounds. With a lot of soul searching and many hours of fact finding by the Manufacturer’s Cup Competition Committee and Trustees Rick Dresang and Missy Nelson-Tate WKA has come to the following conclusion. In the best interest of the majority of the Junior competitors, WKA is changing the spec tire for the final race in Shawano, WI to the Bridgestone YHC.
“On behalf of the WKA and the Manufacturer’s Cup competition committee we want to personally apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The Bridgestone YHC is the spec tire for these classes for the 2006 season. We have been assured by the Bridgestone suppliers that there is an ample supply to handle the final event. If rain tires are needed at Shawano the option will be both Dunlop and Bridgestone. We want to thank everyone for their ongoing support of the Manufacturer’s Cup Series,” said WKA.
