HECKMAN TO DRIVE A GT KART
Seattle, Washington — GT Race Kart and factory-supported Maxx Kart Racing team of Santa Clarita, California, are pleased to announce the addition of 2005 Moran Raceway Red Bull driver search open qualifier standout Kyle Heckman, of Nipomo, California to the race team.
Heckman, 15, was selected by the Red Bull driver search program after trials earlier in May at Moran Raceway as one of the 3 finalists from that particular track. In total, 180 applicants were selected from 60 kart tracks across the United States from thousands of applicants to advance to the next phase of the driver search. Now in its fourth year, the Red Bull Driver Search aims to discover and support talented young racing drivers. The long-term goal of the program is to have a steady group of three to six American drivers, racing on the Red Bull Junior Team in Europe, groomed to break into Formula 1 and compete for the World Championship.
Kyle, also a 3-time IKF Region 7 champion in Junior Super Sportsman, HPV 1 & HPV2 classes in 2004 & 2001, is expected to first compete with Maxx Kart Racing on a GT Kart Marauder chassis at the next IKF Region 7 event at the Willow Spring karting facility in California, Sept 3-4, under the guidance of team principal Tom Johnson. Heckman will be busy further testing with the factory supported team in the upcoming weeks leading to the early September race. Heckman’s engine package will be provided by Doug Fleming of Fleming Motor Sports from North Hills, California.
