ROCK ISLAND GRAND PRIX UPDATE
Rock Island, Illinois — Roger Ruthhart, director of the world famous Rock Island Grand Prix, announced the following on Friday June 24.
1) As of today, we have more than 250 entries. This is more than double the amount we had at this time last year. WARNING: Please get your entries in soon. If you wait until August as many of you have in the past, you will probably find your class full. Remember -- four classes will be allowed to cap at 55 entries. Two are already there -- TAG Senior and TAG Masters. The rest of the classes will cap at 30 entries. Many other classes are already more than half full. We believe this is essential to a well- run program. Track scheduling is going to be difficult enough as it is. Please don't ask us to bump someone who registered before you. You know that's not how it's done in Rock Island.
Entry Packets can be printed off the web site if you have lost yours or didn't receive one. You can also enter online using a credit card.
2) We are still actively putting together contingency programs for 2005. Any manufacturer, importer, or kart shop or other business that is interested should contact us at grandprix@qconline.com .
3) We announced this earlier this year, but it's well worth repeating. The Rock Island Grand Prix and Briggs & Stratton Motorsports are offering a unique racing program called the Battle of the States. Under the new format, racers in the Rumble at The Rock senior Animal class, and the Tom Argy Jr. Animal Roundup for ages 12-15, will not only compete against the field for awards and prize money paid to the first nine places, but will also compete against fellow racers from their own state for a separate $200 prize.
In order to qualify there must be at least four racers from a state entered in the class. The driver who finishes first among competitors from his or her own state wins a check for an additional $200 regardless of where they place overall. You could finish 20th and still win $200 if the other drivers from your state finish behind you! Let's not leave this money on the table. If you know Animal drivers, tell them to round up 3 more racers from their state and enter soon!
4) For those looking to get to Rock Island by air, American Airlines has added another flight daily between Dallas and the Quad-City International Airport in Moline. This second daily flight in each direction will begin August 1.
