MARIN KARTING DRIVERS DO WELL

Novato, California — In the past two weeks many of the Marin Karting drivers have had many successes. They include: Wes Phillips in his Marin Karting CRG/Rotax kart won the Black Rock Pro Rotax International class and then turned around and won the TAG Pro class at Infineon Raceway last weekend.  Kris Shaw finished a very respectable 5th.

Gary Pesner, Team PCH from Southern California, drove to third place in his CRG with a Marin Karting built Rotax engine in the Rotax Masters class at Black Rock.

Wes Phillips commented on the Black Rock event: “Preceding the qualification session, I was confident for a top scoring position. PCH Motorsports along with SSC Racing and Marin Karting put a great kart together, even better than I expected. All that was necessary for a pole position grid spot was a single warm-up lap and one flyer before jumping directly back into the grid. I waited for anyone to top my fast time, only to see no success. While others spent nearly the entire session putting together a good lap, my CRG Rotax needed only a single chance to post its time.”

Heat race one was much of the same from qualification. Phillips continued, “Although Bonnier Moulton had the jump to the lead and clear track for a few laps, not much time passed before I realized his Tonykart was destined to bind in the corners, stealing too much power from the engine. Hardley a third of the way through the race, I passed Bonnier out of the first bend to take the lead with no contest. A testament to CRG's relentless research to their chassis design, my kart settled into a comfortable pace no one was able to match.”

Continuing, Phillips said, “Heat race two provided more excitement, as track precipitation tested all of us on the grid. Some elected to rain set their karts, while others stuck to full dry. All drivers on slicks, it was up to us two CRG drivers Scott Campbell and myself to dominate the field. As the track dried, I pulled away from Scott, but a small fall of rain in the remaining laps jumped Scott to my rear bumper, and to the lead in the final corner and to the stripe for the win. Another fast CRG in Rotaz series director Andy Seesmann. Gary struggled all last year with another frame, and since switching to CRG has run to the front of the masters pack. I am excited to soon see a number of wins coming from Gary.”

“The final was nearly a practice session for my PCH/SSC/MARIN CRG as I gradually swept the field, turning 12 nearly identical laps on the stopwatch. I loved how well the Road Rebel frame accommodated the Yokohama tires, and thank PCH Motorsports for wrapping a great, consistent setup to the chassis. SSC Racing was also instrumental in making sure I had the parts I needed to get my job done. Marin Karting has kept their motor maintenance and education on par all year long and I've greatly appreciated their help for as long as I've worked with them”

In the Northern California Rotax Max Challenge Series, Mike Hill took out first place in the International class and Gary Scharlach.  Bill Wages took first place in his CRG Kali/Parilla kart in the National Cup Grand Masters Class.

x was masters driver Gary Pesner, finishing impressively second to Gator
