SKUSA UNLEASHES PROJECT STOCK HONDA!
Noblesville, Indiana — With the growing popularity of stock concepts all through karting, Superkarts! USA plans to lead the charge in the stock shifter genre. How do we plan to do this? Simple. We’re gonna build one. We’re going to tweak it, test it, research it, beat it up, rev it to the moon, and drive the hell out of it. And through our website, we’re going to take you along for the ride. You’ll get to learn what we find out, what our celebrity drivers think about the package, and what the real deal is with this fast growing segment of karting.
So what is the goal of Stock Honda in general? Well, it’s based on the tried and true CR125R (years 1999-2002). The idea is that you get an inexpensive, reliable, fast, low maintenance engine. Not only that but, each engine is virtually identical in performance to the next thanks to the amazing quality control that has helped Honda become the leader in motorcycles worldwide. This makes for a class to learn and develop driving skills while having a blast, and keeping your dough where it belongs…in your wallet.
The rules for the class are easy. It’s got to be a 1999-2002 Honda, and it’s got to be stock. No mods. No tweaking. No big engine bills. Just 34 HP of six speed fun. We’ve opted for allowing these four years of engines (and interchangeability of parts) due to their easy change over between years, and close similarity in performance. We’ve put a significant amount of time into developing our current rules package, and it is without a doubt the complete package that will stimulate growth and promote stability for years to come. So when it comes to stock Honda, trust Superkarts! USA to give you the straight scoop.
Now that you know what is up our sleeve, let’s get down to the nitty gritty; the ride. After looking through the Superkarts! USA race shop, we decided on a very low use GP6 left over from 2004. The kart is in great shape and represents the type of chassis that may commonly get a stock Honda mounted to it. Long time engine supplier Honda of Troy supplied us with the powerplant, a 1999 based CR125R with a six speed transmission in kit form (1 800 755 2112). Former SKUSA ace Brad Boyer and his company, RCE (www.rceracing.com), has also sponsored the project with their RCE T-3 Honda exhaust pipe and silencer. Ron Joynt and Decal Works will be supplying us with a set of custom graphics for our mount. This will give our ride a look that is easily recognizable at the track. And since we’re Superkarts! USA, it has to look cool.
