GENESIS RACING PODIUMS IN TWO CATEGORIES

Burnaby, BC, Canada — Genesis Racing took to the podium on several occasions this past weekend at the Stars Of Karting Western Round 2 at the Reno Hilton in Nevada. In JICA Mitch Egner managed a career high 3rd place after qualifying 6th overall. Mitch drove hard to advance his way through the pack passing some of North America’s top JICA drivers aboard his CRG/Maxter combination. Egners teammate Scott Rossi was faced with some bad luck and engine problems that constantly held him back leaving him disappointed after having a great race at the previous round in Beaumont, California.

In ICA Genesis mainstay Kevin Glover got his groove back and managed a fantastic 2nd place finish on Saturday’s main after a first corner collision sent him to the back of the pack. Glover however persevered from the back and made his way up to third where he sat behind Tyler Dueck for several laps planning a way around him of which he succeeded at on the final corner on the final lap bringing home a second place. On Sunday Glover qualified fifth with a broken exhaust header giving him a respectable start considering the circumstances. He then returned to the front of the field again in the final however he could only manage a third place finish as his flex pipe collapsed inside the exhaust reducing his power significantly throughout the course of the race.

At the end of the weekend it was a great success for the Genesis ICA program as Glover managed to stay at the top of the ICA points championship which will give the team some great incentive to strive for an even better result at the next round which takes place at Genesis’ home track CARTBC.  In ICC Lorenzo Mandarino was looking strong as well putting down some fast laps on both days however the racing gods were being cruel to the Burnaby Native. On Saturday things were looking good and Lorenzo managed to place 7th with some definite improvements left to be made overnight.

On Sunday Mandarino stepped up the pace in a big way and was the 3rd fastest overall in official practice. Lorenzo qualified 6th and was up to 4th in the pre-final after having passed Darren Elliott, and Alex Speed when an incident in front of him left him with no option but to go over the back of Ryan Phinny costing Lorenzo his nose cone and forcing him into an early retirement from the race. As a result of this misfortune Mandarino would start the Final from 22nd place, which he refused to let get in his way of his pursuit for the podium. Lorenzo got off to a blazing start and was setting a blistering pace running through traffic as if it was standing still. Mandarino’s passes were all done quick and painlessly, until he was making a textbook end of the straightaway pass on Tad Funakoshi’s Top Kart which resulted in contact once again removing the nosecone from Lorenzo’s CRG-Maxter  and sending him parked into the hay bails at the end of the straightaway where he would sit for the rest of the race as a spectator.

When asked about the weekend’s events Genesis Racing’s Steve Rickman stated “ All in all we are very happy with this weekends progress, the motor program jumped huge leaps and bounds in every category and we saw that very clearly in every category. We are looking forward to the next race where we hope to again improve our positions on the track, however three podiums in a weekend is a good weekend for any team”
