THE VELOCE KART CHASSIS WINS AT NEW CASTLE
Bushnell, Florida — The TS Racing team from Florida and the factory Kart team from Italy had an outstanding weekend at the STARS race in New Castle, Indiana. Team driver Damiano Chiesa, driving a Veloce chassis, dominated the ICA final on Saturday against a stellar field of competitors. Chiesa qualified 5th and quickly moved to 2nd in the pre-final. His Veloce teammate Omar Bergo qualified 6th but was taken out of action during the pre-final. From his front row starting position Chiesa moved to the lead and established himself as the man to beat. The Italian driver lowered his lap time on 10 consecutive laps to win by 3 seconds over a very tough ICA field.
The Sunday ICA race proved to be a battle of survival for all the competitors. Omar Bergo put in an extremely quick lap to capture the outside pole during qualifying. Chiesa, the Saturday race winner, slotted into 4th giving the Veloce teammates prime starting positions. The start of the ICA final was marred by a massive accident in turn one. Several drivers ended up under their karts and the race was red flagged but no one was seriously injured. On the restart, the top four karts pulled away from the rest of the field. Veloce driver Damiano Chiesa was blocked on the outside and dropped back to 6th. After working his way through traffic, Chiesa took over the lead just after half way. The lead pack of four swapped positions several times per lap as no one driver had a clear advantage. With three laps to go, one of the lead drivers spun out and the combination of Michael Ryall and Johnny Johnson drafted past Chiesa down the straight. Chiesa moved to second on the last lap and made a move for the win going into the last corner but was shut down by Ryall to finish 2nd by 0.2 seconds.
The Cindy Wiegand Memorial TaG Race was held Saturday night with the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. The race was held under TAGUSA rules and 30 entries made up the field. TS Racing, the importer of the Veloce Karit chassis and Sonik engines, supplied TaG karts for guest drivers Mark Dismore and Mark Dismore Jr. After a full day of picking up stranded karts, Dismore Sr. qualified his Veloce/Sonik in 4th right along side of his son to make it an all Dismore second row. The senior Dismore quickly moved through the field and took over the lead on lap 6. Running consistent laps, Dismore pulled away from the field to win the 24 lap race by over 4 seconds along with setting the fastest lap of the race. Mark Dismore Jr. also aboard a Veloce/Sonik finished second. Dismore and Spaude donated the winning purse to the American Cancer Society.
The chassis of Chiesa and Dismore are available for purchase at TS Racing 352-793-9600.
