WKA CLARIFIES SPEEDWAY SERIES SEAT STRUT RULES
Concord, North Carolina — Recently, a two-piece seat strut has been introduced that allows a seat to float at one corner. This acts as a form of suspension and softens the chassis. This seat strut violates the spirit and intent of Sections 410.1 and 401.12 and is not legal.
Section 410.1 of the 2005 WKA Technical Manual states, "Seat must bolt securely to the frame and not be adjustable while the kart is underway." Section 401.12 states that, "Use of suspension components of any type, including springs, shocks, etc., is prohibited." To make the two-part seat strut legal, the two parts must be securely bolted or pinned together in such a way that the strut is rigid. No movement is allowed in the strut or the seat at any time. Any seat strut that allows movement will not pass pre-race technical inspection. If post race technical inspection reveals a seat strut that allows movement, the kart will be disqualified.
