“New pavement, leveled pits, grandstands, tri-loop scoring system and better viewing

Ocala, Florida - When drivers, teams, series and spectators alike head back to the Ocala Gran Prix facility, they will arrive to something completely different than a few months ago. The already challenging eight corner track has gone over a major facelift in the past three months including a newly paved racing surface, hundreds of feet of grandstands, a level paddock area and paved access roads leading to the grid for all areas of the pits.

“If you came to the track three months ago and then came back today, you would probably think that we are at a completely different location,” expressed Ocala Gran Prix President Jorge Arellano. “The removal of the berms around the facility and the new pavement has really opened up the track. The entire facility looks bigger and the addition of other features really turns OGP into one of the best facilities that North America has to offer.”

Along with the newly paved racing surface that encompasses a 33% mixture of rubber, an AMB tri-loop scoring system has been installed to provide competitors with three separate racing sectors in one complete lap. Also added to the facility are multiple 42” LED monitors that will display competitor’s session and sector times for any given on track session allowing mechanics and tuners to put their stopwatches away. New world class entry, apex and exit curbing has been installed as well as a complete drainage system to allow for proper precipitation removal.

Arellano added, “The asphalt that has been used is something very unique and should provide for a challenging combination for all tuners. Despite having to get through tight and twisty corners in the back section as well as gear for a fast front straightaway, tuners will also need to work on the kart a lot more as the surface will better take on the racing rubber providing for some high grip racing situations.”

Ocala Gran Prix is set to reopen on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010 for both racing kart testing, practice and rental karts.
