By Sylvia Allen We all know the value of setting goals. Without goals, our lives lack direction and focus. Exciting, important goals jump-start our creativity. And, when setting goals, be specific in your statements. For example, “make more sales” is ambiguous. Change it to read “I will make a sale a day for the next month and my plan to do so is outlined below”. To achieve goals, you must do the following: Make a decision as to which goals you specifically want to achieve. Make a personal commitment to yourself to do whatever is necessary to achieve your goals. Be relentless. Don’t quit in the pursuit of your achievement. Do a little toward your goal every day. Write down how much or how little you must do each day in order to achieve. Harness your personal power. Discipline yourself, focus on your commitment. Enlist the help of others who will support you. You must get the support of others in order to achieve your goals. It’s easy to get the support-all you have to do is give support. Don’t be vulnerable to the negative influence of other people. Work on two of your goals every day, even if only for a short time. Visualize yourself actually achieving your goal. Remember the acronym: SMART when setting goals: S = Specific

result and success.
