SPONSORSHIP RESOURCE: 2004 EDITION OF ‘SPORTS MARKET PLACE DIRECTORY’ NOW AVAILABLE New York-based Grey House Publishing has announced the publication of its first edition of the classis sports reference work, ‘Sports Market Place Directory’, most recently published by SportsGuide, previously by Franklin Covey and, before that, by its founder Dick Lipsey, all part of its illustrious 40-year history. In these last 40 years, sports have grown into a giant business. A recent article in the ‘Wall Street Journal’ indicated that, despite a recent decrease in TV network audiences, struggling franchises, and tough negotiations with sponsors, the multi-billion dollar sports industry continues to grow at a rate exceeding the rate of inflation. According to IEG, Inc., which tracks corporate sponsorships, North American companies spent $7.1 billion in 2003 on sports sponsorships, up 9% from 2002. ‘Sports Market Place Directory’ is the key to this dynamic industry. The directory presents ten chapters that tracks 103 sports (air sports to yachting) through logical, easy to search topics, from Single Sports to Facilities. Each listing is full of valuable information, from name, address, phone, fax, web site, e-mail and key personnel to detailed corporate date. This up-to-date, comprehensive directory will prove to be a much needed industry resource for media professionals, agents, athletic directors, coaches, athletes, job seekers, equipment/apparel manufacturers, service providers and others. Previous users of ‘Sports Market Place Directory’ will notice that this 2004 edition has an updated look, and a format that better relates association with the leagues and teams in that field. But more impressive than our new look are our stats with 13,123 listings and 33, 891 key personnel, including head coaches and managers. Our update effort included fax and telephone campaigns, Internet research and industry sources such as ‘Sports Business Journal’, ‘USA Today”, ‘Hoovers’ and IEG, Inc. Every chapter has been significantly improved and updated. Certain chapters however, have been the focus of intense editorial effort, specifically: SINGLE SPORTS, which includes 2,246 sport-specific organizations, leagues and teams, reflects all the current teams and leagues for all sports, including major changes in the auto sports community, and all major professional coaches and managers. SPORTS SPONSORS is double in size from the last edition — 1,673 sponsors that supports most major sports, including all college bowl games. COLLEGE SPORTS, with 1,584 listings that comprise college associations, conferences, degree programs and all NCAA schools, includes current coaches and for dozens of programs at each school, with a major focus on basketball and football. EVENTS, MEETINGS AND TRADE SHOWS is another chapter that doubled in size to 2,491 listings — 129 trade shows plus 2,362 events. Conveniently organized by both date and sport, this chapter now includes more events for more sports than the last edition. FACILITIES is bigger and better, with 1,532 listings that includes architects, building services and professional and college stadiums and arenas. AGENCIES AND PROFESSIONAL SERVICES have been carefully reviewed, cleaned up and reorganized a bit, most notably by combining Sports Agents and Sports Attorneys. These chapters combine to offer 1,942 listings. MANUFACTURERS – All 1,722 manufacturer listings now include product or service and are now indexed by both sport and brand. Major retailers are also included. Three All-Volume indexes are now conveniently grouped together in the back of the nook. The Entry Index is a straight alphabetical listing. The Executive Index is not only a complete alphabetical list of all key personnel in the directory, but also includes their title and organization. The Geographical Index indexes all listings by country and state. You’ll also find 11 chapter-specific indexes — five more than the previous edition. Each index s your navigational tool to each chapter, helping to pinpoint the exact listing you are searching for. For quick, easy access to this amazing compilation of sports data, ‘Sports Market Place Directory’ is also available on CD-ROM and in an online database. There are thousands of ways to search the data on the CD-ROM, including by organization name, sport, executive name and geographic area.
