HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF SEMINARS

The Indoor Karting Industry — track owners, operators and those interested in opening a IKR center — will meet on Sunday, February 24, 2002 during Kart Expo weekend in the Chicago suburb of St. Charles. The North American Karting Association (NAKA) has invited Dick Valentine, director of F1 Boston, an indoor center in Massachusetts, to moderate the 3-hour session. With that in mind, we like to offer some suggestions for those planning to attend the meeting.

1. ARRIVE EARLY — This gives you the information and control to make the session work for you. Arriving early gets you “in the mood” for learning and avoids stress of rushing in.

2. BRING BUSINESS CARDS — Seminars are a great place for networking. You’ll want to have business cards for those people with whom you would like to keep in touch.

3. INTRODUCE YOURSELF — Introduce yourself to at least three people sitting near you… you obviously have something in common with them. Break the ice and say “Hello”.

4. TAKE NOTES — It helps your comprehension to make a few notes on a note pad or handout. Write down questions as they pop up so you will remember to ask them later.

5. PARTICIPATE IN THE DISCUSSION — You’ll remember more of the material if you participate in the discussion. If you have a suggestion that works, please share that information so others can learn from your experience.

6. JUST ASK — If you have a question or need further clarification, just ask! Chances are, if you have a question, you are probably not the only one puzzled. This is the opportunity to get all your questions answered.

7. KEEP AN “ACTION ITEMS” LIST — Throughout the day, jot down ideas you can implement immediately when you return to your facility. Share the ideas you have learned with your staff and/or co-workers.

8. HAVE LUNCH WITH SOMEONE YOU DON’T KNOW — Take an opportunity to discuss new ideas with someone you met for the first time.

9. FOLLOW-UP — Find out what resources are available on subjects that interested you during the seminar and enhance your seminar learning experience.
