SAM HORNISH JR. TO APPEAR AT 2002 KART EXPO

Wheaton, Illinois — Sam Hornish Jr., the 2001 Indy Racing Northern Lights Series (IRL) champion is scheduled to appear at the 2002 Kart Expo International, February 23-24 in St. Charles, Illinois. The event, the premiere kart racing show in North America, celebrating its 10th Anniversary, will feature 200 booths of kart racing chassis and equipment from around the world.

Hornish, 22, a former kart racer, drove to the IRL Championship in the #4 Pennzoil car this year beating the likes of Scott Sharp and Tony Stewart, also former karters. After winning the Infiniti Miami Grand Prix, Hornish stated, “It was a great day for all kart racers because it proved once again that karting is probably the best training ground for aspiring professional drivers.” Hornish and fellow karter and friend Sarah Fisher finished one-two in Miami. For the season, Hornish won three IRL events racking up 500 points for the overall series victory.

Hornish’s appearance is courtesy of the Karting Industry Council (KIC), the karting industry trade organization, and Grand Products, one of Hornish’s earliest karting supporters.

Kart Expo will be held at Pheasant Run Resort and Convention Center in St. Charles, Illinois (West Suburban Chicago), February 23-24. KART EXPO ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL TRACK AND CLUB WORKSHOP

Wheaton, Illinois — Producers of Kart Expo International will hold an inaugural Kart Track and Club Workshop on February 22, 2002, one day prior to the opening of the 10th annual trade show. The insightful and comprehensive workshop will be held at Pheasant Run Resort and Convention Center in St. Charles, Illinois.

In response to the requests of many within the karting industry, this far-reaching program has been designed to educate and assist the over 725 kart tracks and clubs in the US which have all been invited. The workshop program includes the following scheduled topics:

Race Director’s Responsibilities
Insurance and Pit Passes
Track Communications
How To Handle Tech
Safety, Flagging and Corner Workers
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs)
Rule Making and Enforcement
Sponsorship and Marketing
How To Write Press Releases
and an open forum discussion

Scheduled speakers include the following national and international authorities:

Scott G. Evans – National Tech Director
David Larson – President, International Racing Association
John Nuttall – President, Raceway Kart Association

“This program is so important and helpful that all the tracks and clubs should seriously consider sending at least one or two representatives to attend and participate,” said Darrell Sitarz, Expo Director. “The experts we have assembled will provide many helpful hints and suggestions for running a successful race program and an open forum discussion will give tracks and clubs a chance to share successes and ask for advice.

The fee for the day-long workshop, held in conjunction with Kart Expo, is only $25 per person and includes all materials, a catered lunch and certificate of completion. WIN INDY 500 TICKETS AT KART EXPO

Wheaton, Illinois—Attendees at the 10th Anniversary Kart Expo, February 23-24, will have an opportunity to win 2002 Indy 500 Tickets. The tickets, one set on Saturday and one set on Sunday, will be given away to the lucky persons at the upcoming show, America’s premier kart racing show.

“We’re pulling out all the stops to make the 2002 show, our tenth anniversary, the biggest and best ever,” said Darrell Sitarz, Expo Director. “We have a lot of exciting things planned for the event, the ‘new chassis showcase’. So far, we have exhibitors coming from the US, Canada, Italy, Germany, France, Pakistan and Great Britain. It’s gratifying to see the response from the karting community,” he concluded.
