MEGENBIER SELECTED FOR U.S. TEAM TO COMPETE IN ROTAX WORLD FINALS
Chicago, Illinois — Timmy Megenbier, 2004 SKUSA Eastern Zone Rotax Junior Champion and RotaxMax Grand Nationals runner-up, has been selected to the U.S. RotaxMax team to compete against other racers from 40 other countries at the Rotax World Finals in Lanzarote, Canary Islands. The event will be held January 20-22, 2005 and will crown the World Champions in Junior, International and RM1 classes for the 2004 season. Megenbier will compete alongside American teammate, Mike Herda, in the Junior category.

“I am very excited for this opportunity,” said the personable Megenbier. “My team and I have worked very hard all season. It is an honor to be selected as part of the U.S. team. I want to thank my sponsors who have helped me all year. I hope to represent them and the United States well.”

Megenbier is one of six total drivers and one of two Junior drivers selected for the U.S. Rotax team.

“I am pleased to see the addition of Timmy Megenbier to the team representing the United States at the Rotax World Finals,” said Marshall Martin, U.S. Rotax Max Challenge Race Director. “He is an amazing young driver more than capable of the challenge ahead. With Timmy joining Michael Herda, we now have two drivers capable of representing the United States on the podium at the Rotax Grand Finals.”

The team will arrive in Lanzarote, Canary Islands for registration on the 16th, before being allowed two days of practice on January 18th and 19th. Initial qualifying will be held on the 20th before Heat races and Final events take place the following two days.

    ROCK ISLAND GRAND PRIX UPDATE
Rock Island, Illinois — As you may have heard through the internet forums, there has been a lot happening with TAG USA since the close of the SKUSA SuperNats. However the outcome for the program seems to be positive and some encouraging discussions have been held with the WKA to assure that we continue to have just one set of rules for TAG USA. The latest updates on TAG USA have been posted on the TAG website at www.tagracing.net .

RIGP management would like to remind everyone that it's never too early to make your hotel reservations for the Rock Island Grand Prix. The Four Points by Sheraton continues to be the host hotel and rooms rates remain the same as 2004. This hotel is the only one in downtown Rock Island (one block from the track) and is usually full by early March. We also have a block of rooms at the Radisson Hotel just across the river in Davenport, Iowa. Full hotel information can be found on the website at www.rockislandgrandprix.com, although not all blocks and rates have been finalized for 2005 as of this writing and the information on the site is from 2004.

The recent partnership between Southwest Airlines and ATA may actually improve access to Quad City International Airport through Chicago Midway instead of O'Hare. ATA serves the Quad Cities and this should make connections with Southwest more convenient. If you considering flight plans this year we encourage you to consider connections other than through O'Hare because of routine delays there. Besides Midway, you can connect to the Quad-Cities through Denver, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Detroit, Memphis and Cincinnati, although there are more connections through O'Hare.

If you are attending one of the trade shows coming up this winter, be sure to stop by the RIGP booth and say hello. During the next couple of months you can find us at the Rod & Custom Car Show Jan. 21-23 in the Quad-Cities, Midwest Kart Expo in Wheaton Sunday, Jan. 23, and of course Kart Expo International Feb. 26-27 in St. Charles in suburban Chicago. We are proud to continue to be a sponsor of this great event and encourage everyone to put it on their calendar. For information visit www.e-kmi.com.
