  • IMPORTANT KART EXPO SEMINAR NOTICE

  • We have just been informed that due to a prior commitment and scheduling problems (the Daytona 500 and accompanying events), the TRACK OFFICIATING TRAINING SEMINAR presented by Tom Argy Jr. will be held on Friday, February 16, 2001 instead of during the Kart Expo. Because of this change, Tom, who is a NASCAR safety official, will be presenting two 1-1/2 hour sessions on Friday, instead of the one previously scheduled during the show. Mr. Argy will also be presenting the very popular “Sponsorship – Where the money is” seminar on Friday as well. All seminars are presented Free of Charge as part of the 2001 Kart Expo weekend!

    Revised Schedule – FRIDAY, February 16, 2001

  • FIRE DESTROYS CARTER BROTHERS

  • Brundidge (Hamilton Crossroads), Alabama – Fun kart manufacturer Carter Brothers Manufacturing Company was ravaged by a fire on Tuesday, December 19th. Carter Bros. is one of the country’s largest fun kart manufacturers, making 30,000-40,000 karts annually.

The 50,000+ square foot building was completely destroyed by the fire, which is suspected to have begun in the powder paint area of the plant at about 11:00 AM. Fire officials feared additional flammable materials would feed the flames, so the surrounding area was evacuated for a time. Luckily, the fire did not reach the welding area, which contained acetylene and other explosive/flammable materials so residents were allowed back into the area soon after the flames were doused. Other out-buildings were not affected by the blaze including the main office. Local fire officials reported that no one was injured and that foul play was not suspected.

The 110+ Carter Brothers employees had just finished the holiday rush and were about to go on vacation when the flames broke out. Carter Bros. is the 2nd largest employer in Pike County, Alabama where many of the workers have been employed for years.

Owners, Stuart Arn and wife, June Carter Arn vowed that the plant would re-open again after this latest disaster. Back in 1989, the facility was completely destroyed by a tornado and the plant was back in operation within 4-5 months.

  • NEW “LADDER” RACING PROGRAM ANNOUNCED

  • Long Beach, California - Karting author Jean Genibrel has announced the formation of a new program titled AMERICKART designed to move talented American kart racers into auto racing.

Genibrel stated, “Building talented, loyal, dedicated, fully rounded American professional race drivers and promoting Karting and American performance and racing industries via synergy with a user-friendly karting ladder system and campus program (is what Americkart is all about).

The name AMERICKART represents America, CART (Championship Auto Racing Team, and kart racing. The program has been in the developmental stages with Bobby Rahal since January, 1999, when he brought to our attention that CART, some of its sponsors, engine manufacturers and its affiliates were suffering from a lack of representation (on track) by American drivers. Subsequent conversation with (some) engine manufacturers indicated a strong interest from the industry to support a “karting ladder system” to develop drivers from an early age.

Several companies have already pledges their support to the program, or have indicated their intent to support Americkart due to its marketing value and close relationship with CART. These companies are K & N Engineering, Red Line Oil, Douglas Wheel, Tony Kart, Skip Barber and others. Two automobile manufacturers currently involved with CART have also shown great interest in the project.

On September 9, 2000, Bobby Rahal approved the program and will be presenting it for final approval at the next CART board meeting. For more information, contact Jean Genibrel at 562-498-8172 or e-mail: genibrel@earthlink.net.
