Sad News, Again! Rex Hays, 79, long
time friend to kart racing passed away on August 12, 2000. Hays and his
wife Dorothy were deeply involved in the sport for four decades with the
International Kart Federation (IFK). They were also instrumental in organizing
the Northwest Gold Cup series. Hays, another of the “Pioneers Of Karting”,
is survived by wife Dorothy, and six children (Melinda, Nancy, Peggy, Ann,
Patti and Rex, Jr.). Our condolences to the entire Hays family and to our
sport. Rex enthusiasm and dedication to karting will be sorely missed.
Naperville Grand Prix Net Big Bucks The Naperville Grand Prix,
Naperville, Illinois (West Suburban Chicago) ran its 9th annual charity
kart race on Sunday, September 24. Notwithstanding the threat of rain all
day, the event, one of the largest charity events in the U.S. with over
400 drivers competing, came off without a hitch. The event, through the
downtown streets of one of the fastest growing communities in the
country, netted the Exchange Club approximately $35,000. The money will
go to local and county human service agencies whose task is to prevent
domestic violence and child abuse. Connecticut-based Dino USA provided
the modified race chassis, helmets and timing equipment.

to know how to set-up their chassis for LTO (Left-Turn Only) racing. As
always, all seminars are free to attendees of Kart Expo, the only show
designed for the entire kart racing industry. For more information, click

Canadian Steve Pickering Gets Champ Car Ride Former Canadian karter
now race car driver, Steve Pickering, who moved from karts to Formula Ford
this season, struggled a bit in the Ford series but looked upon it as a
learning experience. Obviously, he has learned well and showed great potential
as he was offered a three-race ride in the LA Rainbow Racing’s Champ Car
in that series. Next year, Pickering hopes to run the Grand Prix in Montreal
and the Molson Indy in Toronto.
