Phoenix, Arizona – In the constant quest for improved performance, KGB North America has joined forces with Brembo engineers to develop a new karting brake kit. During the month between the ProMoto events in Barrie, Ontario, Canada and Canby Oregon, two unique brake kits were prototyped for fitment onto KGB Special Phoenix Chassis piloted by M. Rossi and C. Kujala. Early testing of these systems at Formula K Raceway in Phoenix looked positive, and the team headed to Portland with high expectations. When put under extreme demands of Formula 125 competition, both brake systems performed extremely well. “Consistency is key and no brakes have ever felt so consistent to me before,” commented Kujala after his first race experience with the new Brembo brakes. Although the brakes performed to expectations, KGB director Dan Ruth plans to fine-tune these kits before a final upgrade package is put together for the complete line of KGB chassis. Rock Island, Illinois -- In their first appearance at the famed Rock Island Grand Prix on September 2nd, T2 RaceKarts “TrackMax” entries impressed the field with their “out of the box” speed. Scott Barnes of Devonshire, Bermuda, put his T2 RaceKarts prepped “Track Max” on the pole of the 14-kart field with a 35.1-second lap before taking eight place in the final tally following a poor start. Fellow Bermudan and teammate, Jason North, was able to log a third place result while both drivers went on to set the fastest laps of the race. North’s lap time of 34.6-seconds will stand as the Rock Island Grand Prix’s track record for the RotaxMax class. “The kart was brilliant,” said an elated North. “We barely touched the set-up all weekend. We will be back next year for another go at the win.” The overwhelming popularity of the new RotaxMax karting formula has not gone unnoticed and T2 RaceKarts has jumped into this new class headfirst with the unveiling of their new “T2 TrackMax” entry. The TrackMax is a Rotax FR125cc-powered TrackMagic racing kart and includes all the bonuses a RotaxMax kart offers, including electric start, water-cooled engine, automatic clutch, limited warranty and a 50-hour service schedule. The TrackMax also boasts features that are unique to the TrackMagic chassis, such as Brembo brakes, and adjustable wheelbase. “This was our first outing with the new karts,” said Brian Kay, T2 RaceKarts President. “We are really excited about this new class and it’s potential. These karts are literally fresh out of the prep shop when they hit the streets of Rock Island in front of 30-000-plus spectators. The number of entries that we had here for the race is a clean indication of where the RotaxMax class is headed.” For more info check out

Portugal – After EnduranceKarting.com Team USA’s initial trip to the Portugal 24-Hour placing 22nd overall and 16th in class, the team is heading back to for the 12-Hour race scheduled for September 8th. “We learned a lot over there in our first race and we have high expectation in this 12-hour event,” says team manager Johan Schwartz. “We know the track much better, we are becoming familiar with the kart and have a much better service schedule for the kart during the race.” During the 24-hour race in July, the team ran lap times that were consistently in the top 10, but mechanical misfortunes brought the team back. “We have hired one of the top kart mechanics in Portugal, that will help us set up the kart for optimal performance and keep it running during the race with no unscheduled pit-stops.” Racing against EnduranceKarting.com Team USA will be Pedro Lamy, a veteran Formula One driver, who placed third overall in this years LeMans race, driving for Chrysler. The U.S. team drivers are Rick Sansone, Steve Lawrence, Tommy Aespersen and Jonan Schwartz. “The response from other U.S. drivers after our first 24-hour race in July has been so great that we will be bringing at least 3 teams for next years 24-hour race.” Schwartz commented. A team #4 is already starting to develop with many drivers bringing their wives or girlfriends to cheer the team on. “Team EnduranceKarting.com is really looking forward to going over again. The Portuguese people are very nice and the event was extremely professional,” concluded Johan. For more information call

Spa Francorchamps, Belgium – Former Italian kart racer and now Formula 3000 driver Giorgio Pantano has vowed o end the Formula 3000 season with a flourish on home soil at Monza after circumstances contrived to keep him out of contention in the race at Spa, Belgium. The Italian was among the pace-setters from the word go at the wheel of his Astromega Lola, but in changeable weather he found himself on the right tires at the wrong time during qualifying. Having been fourth fastest in the opening session, he slumped to 20th in the second. “It was quite frustrating,” he said, “because we just stayed out too long on wet tires when the track was drying out. By the time I had changed to slicks, there was a good dry line, but then it began to drizzle again. Soon after that my teammate Enrico Toccacelo crashed and they had to interrupt practice. When it restarted, there was time only to do a couple of laps, but although it was dry I was unable to get a clear run, unlike many of the others.” The race started behind the Safety Car (Pace car) because the track as slippery after a downpour two hours earlier. Barely has the field been unleashed, however, than the race was neutralized because Mark Weber (Super Nova) crashed heavily at Raidillon. The Australian escaped with a sore ankle, although his car was destroyed. Once the event began in earnest, Pantano picked his way through the field to finish 11th. “The car was sliding around a bit too much at the rear,” he said, “and with the track quite slippery, I just drove as sensibly as I could to ensure I made the finish. It was a weekend that promised much but delivered little, which is just the way things have been sometimes this season. The next stop is Monza and it would be nice to finish the season with a strong result in my home country. I’m not going to make any rash predictions, but I went well there when we tested and am confident I can do so again. Pantano remains 15th in
the FIA F3000 Championship standing. Englishman Justin Wilson (Coca-Cola
Nordic Racing) clinched the title by finishing second to Ricardo Sperafico
(Petrobras Jnr) at Spa.
