FIRST KART SIGNS COLUMBIAN
NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
Atusta, 18, will contest in the ICC division while the much younger Yacaman, at age 12, with support from IAME Parilla engines will contest for the JICA championship. Both drivers also receive support from Goodyear tires. Atusta, and Yacaman, who acknowledged the advice to race in North America with the First Kart squad from a high ranking member of the motorsports community, will challenge the competition at this year’s Stars of Karting Eastern Championship. “We are pleased to welcome Santiago and Gustavo to the First Kart North America Race Team,” stated Team Principal Ventresca. “Atusta will bring the experience needed to our young squad and will work with Darin Marcus to guide our junior drivers in the right direction. We are also going to broaden our race team with an entry in the JICA division and who else is better to bring in then Yacaman. He impressed all of the team officials at a recent test in Florida and will be tough to beat.” First Kart North America has also put together a team of young tuners to work with the talented drivers. Trevor Daley, Mike Maurini and Aaron De Heus will work with ’02 Shifter Kart Illustrated’s Tuner of the Year, Terry Ventresca, as the quartet works to get the new drivers acquainted with the distinct advantages of the First Kart equipment and to the front of the pack early in the weekend at BeaveRun. The First Kart North America race team receives support from First Kart Italy, CRS motors, Mobil 1 and DeCal Works, To obtain more information

SKUSA TURNING UP THE HEAT
In other news, after exhaustive work on the TAG SKUSA rules, “the book” is finally available. It is over 100 pages, and is a complete manual for the entire TAG community. “This has been a very intense process”, comments National Technical Director Martin Casey. “In the end, we feel as though we’ve come up with a great technical format for all TAG events not only here in the US, but for the International community as well.” It will be on the new website for a free download when the site goes live. You can also request a hard copy by emailing marty@skusaonline.com, with a charge of $80 plus shipping to cover printing costs. In a continued commitment to reposition SKUSA as the premier kart racing sanctioning body, CEO Don Janowski has commissioned a new skusaonline.com. “Our current site has been a serious stumbling block as we re-engineer SKUSA. We’re excited to get the new site up in a few weeks, so that our members can better utilize the site. You can look forward to an easier navigation, and generally, a more comprehensive site.” Superkarts! USA (SKUSA)
is the internationally recognized leader of the shifter kart and TAG (TAG
SKUSA) racing community. For more information about SKUSA, its events,
and its services, please contact the SKUSA National office at +1 (317)

ROC INSTALLS SYSTEM AT
GB CIRCUIT
The system went live on March 1st and incorporates point-of-sale, membership scheme, reservations and ticket sales, corporate hospitality management, inventory control, timing and scoring and lap counting, race event management, driver information and statistics, purchase ordering and financial reporting and analysis. 12 PC Terminals dotted around the venue, all linked up via a Windows 2003 server running SQL Server help manage the facility and keep everyone informed about upcoming events and customer information. There are four terminals in the dedicated sales and marketing suite - the MK nerve center where a selection of highly qualified and dedicated staff perform a telesales role. The ROC Commerce system
houses all the information under one system about the customer, what they
have purchased or reserved in the past and what their future requirements
are. All conversations are tracked to ensure no vital piece of customer
information is missed. This information is available to every single staff
member to ensure no one misses a trick. Customer can now book ahead in
time, for a single race or a complete event and from the operators point
of view - having one system that does it all is crucial to ensure customer
requests are handled efficiently. There are two terminals in the race engineering
bay and also in the catering facility, bar area and general office so everyone
instantly knows what is going on. The venue is linked via VPN/WAN/Internet
to the Daytona Central HQ in London where the financial director can have
an overview of all operations at any venue, pull together results and merge
data, to look at high-level trends or to drill-down to specific digitally
stored receipts if that level of detail is required.
About ROC Timing
EVERY RACER STARTS SOMEWHERE!
The Weekly Racing Series (WRS) recognizes local karters on the national level. The WRS allows karters to compete at their local track, not only against the racers in their class, but also with racers all over the country in a points battle to determine a National WRS Champion in both Junior and Senior Categories, for both Speedway and Sprint Divisions. Providing national recognition for a local racer is long overdue, and WKA is very excited about providing this opportunity for all the karters in the country. "The World Karting Association is proud to launch the Weekly Racing Series. This program addresses the most important part of our organization, The Weekly Racer. Everyone starts out at the grass roots level, racing at the local track. Some drivers find their niche in that program while others move on. The Weekly Racer is what keeps our kart tracks going. WKA hopes this will help reward those racers for their ongoing support of their local track and the sport of karting." -- Randy Kugler, WKA President The WRS will be broken into two regions for both Speedway and Sprint Divisions. It looks like it is going to be a North/South battle for the Speedway drivers and an East/West battle for the Sprinters. A complete breakdown will be forthcoming. The WRS Awards Program is being officially announced for the first time. This is a very impressive layout of awards, especially for an inaugural event. Plans are to keep adding as the season progresses. It is important to WKA to make this program the best it possibly can be, because it is for the guy who will always support our sport. "The WKA has a solid reputation of quality awards and total recognition of racers who perform well in a racing season. This will be no different...As the season moves forward, we will work with industry suppliers and continue to add to this awards program. It already exceeds $20,000, but WKA is committed to make the Weekly Racing Series rewarding and prestigious." -- Tony Barton, WKA Director of Program Development Something exciting and different regarding the WRS Awards Program is the introduction of the "Joe Karter National Award". The plaques and trophies will be designed specifically for the Weekly Racing Series and will never be used for anything else. Awarding the top 10 in the nation, the top 5 in each region, and the top finishing driver at each participating track, these champions will have an award that is unique, not only in design, but in meaning. Below is a breakdown of
the WRS Awards Program, including National, Regional, and Local awards.
While it is a great program as is, WKA feels it is only the beginning of
what can be offered in the months, and years, ahead for the Weekly Racing
Series.
