The winning team, out of 17 competing teams. won the 625-mile race only 19 second ahead on 2nd place. An indication of how closed the event was, that 11th place was only twenty-seven seconds out of first! Other endurance events will be held on April 28-29 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina. As of today, there are only two team opening available for this event. Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio – The Australian-built Omega Kart had a very successful entry into North America in the hand of drivers Franco Filice and Omega Kart importer Don Jones. In the end, the Omega chassis came away with four 1st place finishes in four starts. Don Jones traveled to South Carolina for a World Karting Association (WKA) national enduro event. The team entered an Omega TP13/Max/Rotax Max-powered kart in the unlimited class on April 7th. After little practice in the morning, the Omega Kart was topped off with fuel and sent out to attempt a 45-minute race. The package ran flawlessly and went the distance without a fuel stop. Consistent fast laps and the reliabilty of a belt drive system allowed the team to finish ahead of the faster twin-engine and 250cc shifter karts. Franco Filice, a 16-year old “hot shoe” from Brunswick, Ohio completed at a local event with the Barberton Karting Association. Filice raced an Omega TP13/Yamaha SuperCan package. The team dominated the day winning both heats and the feature race. Franco also set a new personal-best lap time for the class where he was a junior champion in 2000. The team will continue
to develop the Omega Kart product line for the American market. Jones says
to expect to see the debut of the Omega F125 Shifter Kart chassis and the
new Omega EDGE 2/4-cycle chassis in the coming weeks.
Alexandria, Virginia – The upcoming Asian Amusement Expo (AAE 2001) offers something for every professional in the amusement and leisure industry, from the region’s latest annual exhibition of industry products and services to informative panels and workshops focusing on the “experience economy.” AAE 2001 will run from July 11-13 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong. The event is entering
its 10th year and is co-sponsored by the conference and exhibition management
firm, Terrapinn, the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions
(IAAPA) and the American Amusement Machine Association (AAMA).
B. The IAAPA Asian Amusement Management School, featuring workshops that demonstrate how to effectively train personnel to provide guests with a wonderful “experience”. C. The Leisure and Entertainment Asia Conference with expert panels and keynote speakers discussing the secrets to success in the “experience economy.”
For industry buyers and sellers, the exhibition at AAE 2001 is a crucial entry point to the region’s amusement, leisure and entertainment sectors. The show floor will contain the latest offerings of numerous manufacturers and suppliers. Recent research indicates that 85% of AAE buyers have purchasing authority and that 72% intend to use that authority while at the show. For those facility owners and operators wanting to upgrade their employee training programs, the two and a half day IAAPA Amusement Management School will do just that. Divided into five courses including recruitment and selection, risk management and supervisory skills, the school will use a mixture of exercises to maximize learning and retention. Graduates will receive a full set of reference materials and a certificate of completion. For industry professionals
interested in learning more about the emerging “experience economy”, the
Leisure and Entertainment Asia Conference will bring together some of its
leading practitioners to discuss past lessons and future insights. A series
of talks and seminars will examine all aspects of the “experience” element,
allowing attendees to better understand the possible applications within
their own organizations. For more information including registration, see
www.iaapa.org or www.aae-expo.com.
