INTERNATIONAL KARTING INFORMATION
Geneva, Switzerland –
The following is the latest information from CIK/FIA.
-
SPORTING REGULATIONS: The
CIK Executive Committee has voted on the sport regulations which will govern
the CIK/FIA Championship, Cups and Trophies in 2001. For the 2001 CIK/FIA
Karting World Championship, run over 5 events, it has been confirmed that
two titles would be awarded: one for drivers and the other for teams.
The World Championship
will be open to all teams wishing to enter, subject to their entering two
drivers (plus one possible reserve driver, who must be 22-years old or
younger). As of 2002, one of the titular drivers must be 22-years old or
younger in order to ensure the presence of young drivers among the elite.
Only 17 teams will be
entitled to take part in the 2002 World Championship, including the 14
best-classified (qualified) teams in 2001. In order to ensure the participation
of teams in each of the five events of the 2001 World Championship, a deposit
of $30,000 US dollars per team shall be guaranteed at the (time of) entry.
As scheduled, each World Championship event will comprise two events. All
the results, without deducting any, will be taken into consideration.
The Executive Committee
has also ratified the European Formula A Championship, to be composed of
four events comprising two races each. In the Championship, only the drivers
five best results (out of the possible maximum of eight) will be retained.
Although, the limit of entries was increased to 144 drivers (as opposed
to 108 in 1999 and 126 in 2000), a new system of qualifying heats will
permit the reduction of the format of events and of the costs connected
to the competition.
For the European ICA
Championship, and more specifically for the Qualifications thereof, besides
drivers who are 15-years old or more, drivers born between May 25, 1986
and July 13, 1986 (within the limits set-out under Article 25 of the European
IAC Championship Sporting Regulations) will be eligible. Although those
drivers will not be more than 15-years old at the start of the qualifications,
they will be entitled to obtain from their ASNs, a B/Senior license as
of May 25, 2001.
For all championships
run over several events, the scale of the points has been revised: as of
now, the first 15 classified drivers of each race will score points. Licenses:
New – In order to avoid the systematic granting of waivers created by the
former license regulations governing the issuing of Grade A licenses, a
new set of rules has been adopted, exclusively based on results criteria,
without any waivers possible. The “Super License” extension has also
been created; it will enable its holder to participate in the CIK/FIA Karting
World Championship.
-
TECHNICAL REGULATIONS: For
better control of the conformity of ignition systems, the Executive Committee
has taken the decision to extend the use of homologated analogue ignition
systems to all categories, including those of Group 1. The CIK/FIA will
own a number of systems and its stewards shall reserve the possibility
of exchanging them at events.
Because it is worried
about the growing sophistication of data logging systems, the (CIK/FIA)
Executive Committee has decided to control channels, limiting the systems
used in Group 2 to the reading of three parameters: engine revs, lap times
and one indication of temperature. Those used in Group 1 will be limited
to the reading of five parameters: engine revs, lap times, one indication
of temperature, speed and X-Y acceleration. Data logging in Formula Super
A are not concerned by these restrictions.
Engines eligible for
Formula C (125cc) will be as follows: Mono-cylinder engines with reed valve
or rotary valve intake, cooled by air or by water, registered by the CIK/FIA
before March, 2002 and currently valid, or homologated in ICC by the former
FMK or the former CIK/FIA. As of January 1, 2003, Only mono-cylinder engines
with reed valve intake will be eligible.
-
WORLD FORMULA: The drawing
and list of requirements for the chassis prescribed for the World Formula
will be submitted at the next meeting of the Executive Committee. Regarding
Engines, the Executive Committee has confirmed the price cap of $1000 US
dollars, defined some general technical characteristics (4-stroke, single
cylinder, maximum of 150cc, no supercharging) and decided that the choice
of engines would be determined after the regional invitations to tender
(Europe, America, Middle-East, Asia-Pacific).
-
CIK/FIA GEOGRAPHIC ZONES:
Approval of the definition of Zone Championship adapted to karting.
-
FEE: The calendar entry fee
is set at 100 CHF (Swiss Francs) per event.
-
LATE HOMOLOGATIONS: Because
they had been unable to submit complete Homologation Forms within the scheduled
deadline provided for Homologation Regulations, the Manufacturers Sieci
(125cc engine) and Squerzoni (carburetors) are required to pay a fine equal
to one homologation fee (namely 3800 CHF), exceptionally and because of
the circumstances (in accordance with article 152 of the International
Sporting Code).
-
CALENDAR: Originally scheduled
to be held at the Vojens circuit, the 2001 Viking Trophy (ICA and ICA Jr.)
will be held at the scheduled date June 29 to July 1 in Denmark, but at
the Thy-Hanstholm circuit, instead.
