  • TWO WORDS FROM THE EDITOR!
    Note: In as much as this is a news and information web site, the personal thoughts and feelings of the editor are not usually contained in the FYI column, but, in this case, what is said here is appropriate and needs to be stated publicly.

    THANK YOU! These two words say it all and are directed toward the over 110 exhibiting companies, the attached exhibitor personnel and the more than 2,300 attendees from all over the world who attended the 2001 Kart Expo International on February 17-18. Also, a very special “Thank You” to the members of the River Valley Kart Club who assisted with ticket sales. In addition, I would like to thank the sponsors; AM820 Chicago’s Voice of NASCAR and Liberty Suburban Chicago Newspapers without whom the show would not have been successful.   • GENESIS SELECTED AS CRG IMPORTER
    Burnaby, British Columbia – Genesis Racing Products have announced an agreement between themselves and legendary CRG kart factory to be the direct importers for Western Canada for all CRG karts and the newly named MAXTER race engines. Italy-based CRG has an extensive history of building championship-caliber race karts which have attained more World and European Championship titles than any other manufacturer. CRG also have renamed their World Championship winning CRG engines to Maxter. Both CRG and Maxter engines will be available from Genesis in March 2001. Also added to the Genesis line-up has been the SGM 125cc shifter engine line. SGM of Maranello, Italy manufacturers 125cc Formula C and ICC engines. SGM engines are developed and manufactured using leading technology. The engines have already posted some very impressive results on the European race scene and have been the motor of choice for CRG’s Vitantonio Liuzzi and Massimilliano Orsini.

  • FLATOUT GROUP SIGNS SKUSA DEAL
    Mundelein, Illinois – Flatout Group is pleased to announce that they have signed on with the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) 2001 ProMoto Tour as National Formula S1 Class sponsor.

    In a deal secured during a meeting in Indianapolis between SKUSA CEO Jim Murley and Flatout Group President Mark Adelizzi, both parties walked away extremely pleased with their future agendas.

    “We believe in SKUSA,” said Adelizzi, “and their growth is parallel to ours in the Flatout world of shifter kart racing.”

    “With so many exciting things happening, we see SKUSA growing to the next level of professional motorsports. Our plan is to be right there with them,” continued Adelizzi.

    “We’re glad to have companies like Flatout Group onboard with us. Their continued and increased commitment shows that SKUSA gives its sponsors a great bang for the buck and super return on (their) investment,” said Murley after the meeting.

    Flatout was a “Patron Sponsor” to the Promoto Tour during the 2000 season along with becoming the “Official Graphics Supplier to SKUSA”, a status they will continue in the new deal. Flatout is also continuing their 10% discount to all SKUSA racers and teams.

  • LAWN & GARDEN EXPO REGISTRANTS CAN WIN
    Louisville, Kentucky – Registering for the International Lawn, Garden & Power Equipment Expo (Expo 2001) is easier than ever on the Internet. And, visitors who register for badges and hotel rooms on-line will have a chance to win prizes. Expo 2001 is set for Friday-Sunday, July 20-22 at the Kentucky Exposition Center at the Kentucky Fairgrounds in Louisville, Kentucky.

    Industry members can qualify to win NASCAR tickets, trips or other monthly prizes by registering on-line at the Expo 2001 web site at http://expo.mow.org. There is no fee for those who register before Monday, July 16. After July 16, the registration fee is $25. Full details, including schedule and seminar information, are on the web site.

    Louisville’s reasonably priced accommodations can also be reserved on-line. A $500 U.S. Saving Bond will be awarded to one visitor who books a hotel room on-line or by telephone.   • ROBBY MOTT LEADS SERIES
    Los Angeles, California – Winners of the Series to Advance American Racing Talent (STAART) program, produced by Horstman Manufacturing Company, completed their first race weekend on February 9-11 with the Formula Russell Race Series. Vista, California-based Horstman Mfg. Created the program as a step system to give an opportunity to advance karters to the next level in their racing careers. As a part of their prize package, the top three finishers of the Horstman Pro Invitational were awarded four races in the Russell Racing Series, among many other prizes.

    Robby Mott, Phil Carlson, Dom DeJacomo, the top drivers of the Horstman Pro Invitational, had their first practice on Friday, February 9th at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, California, where the Russell series takes place.

    On Saturday, February 10th, the day of the first race, weather conditions were unpleasant. The three contenders from the STAART program proved their talent. Robby Mott got the pole with the fastest lap time and placed a close 2nd in the event.  Phil Carlson came in 5th and Dom DeJacomo took 6th place. Based on points from the Saturday race, the drivers were divided into three groups; A, B, and C. Group “A” consisted of all the fastest competitors. For the Sunday race, the drivers would race in the group in which they were placed on Saturday.

    On Sunday, Robby Mott now racing against all the fastest drivers in the “A” group, got the pole position. Using his racing skill and aptitude, Robby ran a challenging race and placed 1st. Mott is now tied as the series leader with 35 points. Phil Carlson, also a very talented driver, dominated the “B” group with a pole on Sunday and also finishing in 1st place. Phil is now tied for 4th place in the series with 28 points. Dom DeJacomo, also in the “B” group, placed 6th resulting in a total of 12 points in the Russell series.

    The next race weekend will take place starting with practice on Friday March 9 and races on the 10 and 11. Sears Point Raceway will again be the venue, but this time utilizing a different course.
