  • KART EXPO SHAPING UP!
St. Charles, Illinois - The 2001 Kart Expo is shaping up to be the finest show in its 9-year history. So far over 80 companies will be represented with more signing on everyday! Exhibitors from as far away as Australia, Italy, Czech Republic, Germany, and perhaps Pakistan plus scores of U.S. and Canadian companies will give all attendees great insight as to the new products available for kart racing this year.  This year the show will include manufacturers, distributors and dealers from all types of kart racing including Speedway/Oval, Shifter, Sprint, Enduro and Indoor.

Trade-only Hours - Kart Expo is also the ONLY North American kart show with “trade only” hours which gives karting industry professional business people a chance to talk to exhibitors before the show is open to the public. The trade-only portion of the show is on Saturday, February 17th from 9:00 AM until Noon. Trade-only attendees must submit an industry-related business card or letterhead along with a fee. Trade-only badges are good for both days of the show. Pre-registration is recommended. For complete information and a down-loadable trade-only pre-registration form, click onto the Kart Expo logo on this site or contact show management.

Seminars - The topics this year include: Track Officiating and Sponsorship Acquisition (presented only on Friday 2/16). Saturday’s program includes: Getting into e-Business, 4-cycle Clutches, and Indoor Kart Tracks. Sunday’s seminar schedule is: Oval Track Kart Set-up, Cross Channel Marketing, and Shifter Kart Racing Into the 21st Century. All seminars are free of charge to attendees.

Satellite Meetings - At present, the Karting Industry Council (KIC) plans to have their annual membership meeting at the show. For more info: 219-277-0033. If your organization would like to hold a meeting in conjunction with the show, please contact George Sparks at Pheasant Run Resort and Convention Center at 630-584-6300. He can make arrangement for your group.

2002 Dates - So as not to overlap the Indianapolis cycle show and the Daytona 500, show management has tentatively scheduled the 10th anniversary Kart Expo for one week later in the month, on February 23-24, 2002 at the same location, Pheasant Run Resort and Convention Center, St. Charles, Illinois. Booth space for the 2002 show will be available to current exhibitors on a first-right-of-refusal basis, then open to others.

  • IAAPA WINS AWARD
Alexandria, Virginia – The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) was recently awarded the 2000 Gold Circle Award trophy in the category of Product/Service Marketing or Advertising Campaign for its “Get Equipped With IAAPA” membership recruitment campaign. The prestigious Gold Circle Award is presented annually by the Communication Section of the American Executives (ASAE), and has consistently recognized excellence in non-profit communications – from public relations campaigns to publications – for more than 20 years.

“IAAPA is proud to have earned the Gold Circle Award, which recognizes association for their impressive communications activities in a day and age when information is such a precious commodity," stated John R. Graff, IAAPA President and CEO. “Winning this award is not only a tremendous honor, but further validates our efforts to grow IAAPA’s membership.”

Competition was fierce for each of the coveted Gold Circle Awards, and IAAPA’s entry bested the submissions of 18 other association in earning top honors in its particular category.

To increase both the number of new members and the retention of current members, the association developed the “Get Equipped with IAAPA” campaign, which is based on the premise that by using a distinctive logo and theme, the concept of membership can be presented to eligible companies as a product itself. The logo and theme were implemented via such tools as targeted outreach, membership cost analysis, driving traffic to the IAAPA web site, and a marketing plan whose many different facets mutually reinforce each other. As a result of the campaign, new member recruitment is thus far up 14% over 1999 and the membership retention is up 2%

IAAPA’s winning entry was on display with those from the other categories during the recent ASAE Management and Technology Conference in Washington, DC in December. All Gold Circle Award winners were also honored with a breakfast at the conference and will be showcased in a special section of the April, 2001 issue of the ASAE’s “Association Management” magazine.

IAAPA is the largest international trade association for permanently situated amusement facilities in the world. The organization represents over 5,000 facility, supplier and individual members from more than 100 countries, including most amusement parts and attractions in the USA. IAAPA is based in Alexandria, Virginia.
