TROUBLESHOOTING
ENGINE PROBLEMS
Problem: Engine does
not start or is difficult to start
1. NO FUEL FLOW
a. No fuel in tank
b. fuel filter clogged
c. Fuel hose broken or
disconnected
d. Fuel line clogged.
Pull the fuel line loose and carefully blow through it.
2. ENGINE FLOODED
a. Float level too high.
Check and adjust
b. Inlet needle valve
worn or stuck open. A piece of dirt, rust or other debris can cause the
inlet needle to seat improperly, causing excess fuel to be admitted to
the float bowl.
c. Starting technique
is incorrect. Under normal situations, the engine should start with little
or no throttle. When the engine is cold, the choke should be operated and
the engine started without operating the throttle. If the engine is flooded,
keep the ignition off and hold the throttle wide open while cranking the
engine. This will allow additional air to reach the cylinder(s).
3. NO SPARK OR WEAK SPARK
a. Spark plug is dirty
or worn out. Replace the spark plug with correct plug per manual.
b. Spark plug cap or
secondary wiring faulty. Check condition. Replace either or both components
if cracks or deterioration occur.
c. Spark plug cap not
making good contact. Make sure that the cap fits snugly over the spark
plug end.
d. Ignition coil defective.
Check the coil and replace if necessary.
