FUN TIMES
MAINTAIN YOUR FUN KART FOR WINTER STORAGE

Now that summer is nearly a memory, it’s time to think about putting away the fun kart that has given you so much pleasure. And, remember, if you take good care of your karting equipment this winter, it will take good care of you next year.

With careful maintenance you can keep your equipment working well and your engines running cleaner, and you’ll be glad you did when the next season comes along. Consumers who take time to store their equipment properly will benefit in several ways.  They can:

Keep their equipment in safe, working order

Save the trouble of unexpected, and possibly costly, repairs

Extend the life of their equipment

Keep their engines running efficiently (new low emission engines now run 70% cleaner than
in previous years, and proper maintenance will keep them that way)

Keep the air cleaner for everyone

So, when it comes time for your kart to hibernate for the winter, here is what we recommend that you do:

Drain the fuel tank completely by running the engine until all of the excess fuel is gone.

While the engine is still warm, drain the crankcase oil.

Fill it with fresh oil

Lubricate all lubrication and movable points, including all steering joints and throttle/brake controls.

Check all moving parts for damage. Cover any bare metal parts with oil or rust preventive

Clean caked-on dirt and grass and wipe debris from engine, frame, wheels and tires.

Using household spray wax such as Pledge, wax down the entire frame.

Using a silicone spray, such as Armor-All, spray and wipe-down the tires and upholstery.

For karts with a battery, remove the battery and fully charge before storing.

For those of you who really aren’t do-it-yourselfers – you might prefer to take your equipment to a servicing dealer for a pre-storage tune up.  Then, store equipment and any fuel can in a clean, dry, ventilated area and never near a pilot light, stove, or heat source of any kind.

So, there you have it pretty simple, right?  You can get a lot out of a little bit of proper maintenance.  And now you can relax, enjoy the winter knowing that your kart will be ready for action next spring!
