All track and club officials are aware that they should perform a tech inspection of each and every kart and driver prior to every event BEFORE they go on the track. But a visual tech inspection is only as good as the one performing it and the integrity of the racer, as well. With that in mind, New York-based TCM Racing has designed a Technical Inspection Report form that will make it easy for the inspector to go through the kart and the driver’s safety equipment item by item without missing anything. This form will also assist track and club officials in post-race tech inspection and in case there are any legal questions regarding the safety of a chassis or racer’s equipment.
This new form gives tech inspectors guidelines for pre-race tech as well asking the driver to sign, therefore indicating his/her acceptance of what was inspected and the willingness to abide by the rules and regulations, etc.
Officials should use the forms for each and every class in every event and retain the forms for 7 years, in case there are any legal questions that may arise after the fact. I would suggest that each club and/or series print a large quantity of the forms annually and have them padded for convenience. It may also be a good idea to use different color paper for different years, i.e. white for 2003, yellow for 2004, green for 2005, etc. for ease in identifying and storing the paperwork. And don’t forget, if there are different items that your track would like to see inspected, such as ‘oil catch tank safety wired’, change the form as you wish.
