RACING WITH TECHNOLOGY – Part 2 In Part 1 of this article (available in ARCHIVES), we discussed new technology that is available to karters. This month, to help keeping customers coming back, we suggest giving them the expert set-up sheet to help keep track of data. SET-UP SHEET Motor Type: Drive Sprocket Size: Rear Sprocket Size: Tire Circumference (Front): Tire Circumference (Rear): Tire Pressure – All 4 Tires (Pre-race or practice): Tire Pressure – All 4 Tires (Post-race or practice): Ambient Temperature: Relative Humidity: Barometric Pressure: Air Density: Tire Temperature – All 4 Tires (Post-race or practice): Tire Temperature – All 4 Tires (post-race or practice): (Note: Measure tire temperatures at each edge and in the center): Track Temperature: Total Kart Width of Front: Total Kart Width of Rear: Front Width from Front Spindle Bolt, right and left: Rear Width from the bearing cassette, right and left: Lap Times from each outing: Details of changes made before each outing: With this data collected, you have done several things. First you have the karter hunting for data. He or she has to ask other karters how to get the information necessary to complete this form. Your karter will now observe that other karters do collect data. The second largest step is that you have the karter keeping track of changes and hopefully not making so many changes that the karter cannot tell you which one or if any are having a positive or negative impact. Third, you can see if the karter is paying attention to how you are advising him/her to adjust the kart to improved performance. The fourth benefit is that you can see a large variety of lap times and you can determine if the issue is with driving experience versus the equipment. Good luck and race safe!
